Today’s announcement by Housing New Zealand that it is ramping up its building programme is great news for Mt Roskill, says National Party Mt Roskill candidate Parmjeet Parmar.

Earlier today, it was announced Housing New Zealand has lodged consents to build 1297 new houses in Auckland over the past quarter, which will have the potential to accommodate more than 3200 people.

“I’m delighted this includes three projects in Mt Roskill, which I’ve been advised will collectively replace 14 existing homes with 53 new ones, with the potential to house around 170 people.

“Housing is an important issue for the people in Mt Roskill, like the rest of Auckland. Today’s news is further demonstration of how National’s comprehensive housing plan is delivering results.

“As part of our comprehensive housing plan, we’ve created 154 special housing areas across Auckland, which will deliver an estimated 62,000 new houses.

“Six of these special housing areas are in the Mt Roskill electorate, which will deliver an estimated 340 homes.

“I visited the Three Kings special housing area in Mt Eden Road earlier this month. This development is well underway and will deliver 99 new homes in Mt Roskill, a proportion of which will be affordable.

“We’ve also launched a $1 billion Housing Infrastructure Fund and are providing government grants of up to $20,000 per couple to help young New Zealanders into their first home through our KiwiSaver HomeStart scheme.”
