A new housing development in Mt Albert is fantastic news for families in Mt Roskill and surrounding suburbs looking to buy their first home, National Party candidate for Mt Roskill Parmjeet Parmar says.
Dr Parmar joined Building and Housing Minister Dr Nick Smith this morning as he signed an agreement between the Crown and its development partners to build homes on under-utilised Crown land.
The project is expected to deliver over 100 homes, with a significant proportion of these to be priced at or below the Auckland HomeStart price cap of $650,000.
“I’m really pleased to see developments like this moving forward because it means more opportunities for families to establish themselves in our area,” Dr Parmar says.
“The development is just outside the Mt Roskill electorate, but will still be well connected to our communities here.
“I know local residents in Mt Roskill are concerned about housing supply, and the Government’s comprehensive housing plan is addressing that.
“We’ve already increased the KiwiSaver HomeStart and Welcome Home loan caps, we’re reforming the planning system and building laws, we’re boosting the number of apprentices, supporting infrastructure costs, and directly building homes through developments like this.
“I’m campaigning to be Mt Roskill’s electorate MP because locals need a representative with a clear mandate to speak for them and advocate in Government to keep up this progress.”
